Our trekking adventure kicks off with a scenic drive from Leh to Murubok, a small village nestled near Phyang at 4,050 meters. From Murubok, begin the gradual ascent towards Phyang Phu, a remote grazing area surrounded by the striking barren mountains of Ladakh. Along the way, you'll pass through traditional Ladakhi settlements, high-altitude meadows, and rocky terrains, offering spectacular views of the Trans-Himalayan landscape. 

Upon arrival at Phyang Phu campsite, take time to relax and acclimatize. Here, you'll have the unique opportunity to interact with local shepherds, Based on the season, gaining insight into their nomadic lifestyle, ancient traditions, and sustainable way of life. After an early breakfast, begin your trek toward the South Base of Lasermo La. The trail starts with a gradual incline over a rugged, gravel-strewn path. Follow the river upstream, keeping an eye out for traditional stone cairns (stacked stones) marking the route.

As you progress, another stream joins from the left. Cross at the junction and follow the new trail, which will now have the stream on your left side. The terrain becomes drier as you approach the camp, where you’ll set up for the night beneath the towering peaks of Ladakh.

On this crucial day of the Phyang to Hunder Trekking Ladakh, we begin early to ascend the formidable Lasermo La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in Ladakh. The early start is essential, as melting snow and ice can make the descent trickier by midday, especially for the pack animals crossing the glacier.

The climb is demanding but immensely rewarding, offering 360-degree panoramic views of the Karakoram Range, Indus Valley, and the Shyok Valley. This pass has historically been used by traders and nomads traveling between Leh and the Nubra Valley, making it an integral part of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage.

After reaching the top, we begin our descent, traversing rough glacial moraines for approximately 1.5 hours. The landscape here is otherworldly, with sharp ridges, snowfields, and deep crevasses, creating an awe-inspiring high-altitude wilderness experience. The valley gradually opens up into lush alpine meadows, a stark contrast to the rugged ascent.

Our campsite for the night is nestled in a beautiful high-altitude pasture, surrounded by rocky slopes and scattered wildflowers. This region is occasionally used by Ladakhi shepherds, who bring their yaks and sheep to graze in the summer months. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience the silence of the mountains, stargaze under an unpolluted night sky, and rest before continuing the descent towards Hunder Dok and Nubra Valley.

Today’s journey takes you through breathtaking high-altitude meadows adorned with seasonal wildflowers, alongside pristine glacial streams flowing down from the Lasermo La Pass. The landscape transitions from rugged mountainous terrain to lush green pastures, offering a striking contrast that makes this section of the trek truly unforgettable.

As you descend, you'll come across traditional shepherd settlements where locals from Hunder Dok Village reside with their livestock. These communities sustain themselves by rearing yaks, cows, goats, and sheep. You may spot villagers skillfully collecting milk, butter, and wild vegetables—an integral part of their self-sufficient Ladakhi lifestyle.

Tonight’s campsite is set above Dok Gongma (Upper Dok), offering serene views of the valley below. With the clear night skies of Ladakh, expect breathtaking stargazing, making this an unforgettable overnight stay in the heart of nature.

Walk through mesmerizing landscapes, crossing alpine meadows, glacier-fed streams, and ancient willow groves. On the way from Hunder Dok to Hunder, a hidden cave on the left side offers a mysterious retreat, believed to have sheltered monks and travelers, surrounded by dramatic rock formations and serene silence. Arrive in Hunder, famous for its golden sand dunes and rare double-humped Bactrian camels, a unique sight in the high-altitude desert of Nubra Valley.
