7-Day Tsomoriri Leh-Ladakh Tour Package

This morning, take a scenic flight to Ladakh, the “roof of the world.” The flight from Delhi to Leh takes about 90 minutes. Upon arriving at Leh airport, take a car to the city center and check into your hotel. Leh is at an altitude of 3,500 meters. Today, you should acclimatize and avoid strenuous activities. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant to taste Ladakhi cuisine.

After lunch, explore the narrow streets of Leh’s old town and visit the Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. Climb to the roof for a great view of the town. From the palace, a steep path leads to the Namgyal Tsemo monastery, built in the 15th century, which features colorful prayer flags and an 8-meter-high statue of the Future Buddha.

In the evening, visit the Shanti Stupa for a beautiful sunset view of Leh. This stupa, built by Japanese monks, symbolizes peace and features colourful paintings of the Buddha's life. After sunset, return to Main Bazar for a cup of Ladakhi tea (salted tea with yak butter) and enjoy the lively market atmosphere. Nearby, find Gompa Soma, a small Buddhist temple, and the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in Ladakh from the 17th century.

This day tour takes you to the western Indus Valley, known as “Sham,” which is at the same elevation as Leh, making it ideal for acclimatization. After a 30-minute drive along the Leh-Srinagar road, you'll reach Magnetic Hill, where you can witness the curious phenomenon of your car moving uphill with the engine off.

Next, visit the Sangam, where the Zanskar River meets the Indus River. On your way to Alchi, stop at the Basgo Gompa and the ancient mud-brick fortress. Enjoy lunch in Alchi village before exploring the Alchi monastery, famous for its 11th-century murals. Nearby, the Likir monastery features a 22m-high statue of the Future Buddha. On the return to Leh, visit the Gurdwara Pathar Sahib and Spituk monastery.

Over the next 4 days, you will go on an exciting jeep safari tour in Ladakh. After breakfast, drive north to Khardung La pass at 5,602 meters above sea level. This pass connects Leh to Nubra Valley and offers great views of the Karakoram mountain range.

Next, head down to Nubra Valley, which means "the valley of flowers" in the Ladakhi language. It is located at an average altitude of 3,100 meters and has the Nubra and Shayok rivers running through it.

Visit the 15th-century Diskit Monastery, the largest gompa in Nubra Valley, which clings to a rocky hill. Nearby, you will find a 32-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha, inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010.

Finally, drive 10 minutes to the small village of Hunder, which has about 1,000 people living there. You can find hotels, guesthouses, and homestays for the night.

Start your day with a camel ride on the Hunder Sand Dunes. The double-humped Bactrian camels here remind us that Nubra Valley is along the old Silk Road, which connected Central Asia to India.

After that, visit the Samstanling Monastery in the village of Sumur. Then, take the small road along the Shayok River to Pangong.

Pangong Lake sits at an elevation of 4,250 meters. It is a 140-kilometre-long brackish lake. The lake's clear waters are surrounded by dry, brown mountains. Pangong Lake became popular in 2009 when it appeared in the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots,” featuring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Today, It will be a long-distance drive from Pangong Lake to Tso Moriri Lake. After Chushul village, drive through the road to Tsaga La Pass, which is just 4 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC). I will continue south along the India-China border while enjoying the beautiful landscapes in this remote part of Changthang.

Tso Moriri Lake is one of the most impressive natural sites in Ladakh. This brackish lake is 26 km long and is surrounded by several peaks over 6,000 meters high. It is the largest high-altitude lake that is entirely in India.

Korzok, the only village by Tso Moriri Lake, is at an altitude of 4,350 meters, making it one of the highest villages in Ladakh. Here, you can meet the Changpa nomads who raise pashmina goats, sheep, and yaks. Korzok village has several options for accommodation, including homestays.

This morning, visit the Puga hot springs and drive to Tso Kar Lake, which is 80 km from Tso Moriri. “Tso Kar” means “white lake” in Ladakhi, named for the thick layer of salt around it. This lake is home to migratory birds and other wildlife. You might see the famous black-necked crane.

Next, drive to Leh through Taglang La, the highest mountain pass on the Leh-Manali highway, at 5,328 meters. After crossing the pass and reaching the Indus Valley, head to the village of Hemis. Here, visit the Hemis monastery, which is the largest and richest monastery in Ladakh. It has many temples, including one with a giant 8-meter-high statue of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism.

Then, stop at Thiksey Monastery. Its architectural style is similar to the Potala Palace in Tibet. The monastery has 10 temples, and the main attraction is the 14-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha, built to honour a visit from the 14th Dalai Lama. Follow the Indus River east for 20 km, and you will arrive in the city of Leh.

It is time to say goodbye to Ladakh and fly over the beautiful Himalayas from Leh to Delhi.
